Legoland Windsor; Money Saving Tips

August 3rd, 2011

1. Never Pay Full Price at Legoland, Windsor

There are plenty of deals available for Legoland Windsor that tend to run all season so if you are paying full price, you are certainly missing a trick!  For more information, check out our comprehensive list of Deals & Discounts for Legoland, Windsor.

Legoland Windsor Deals

2. Pack a Picnic for Legoland, Windsor

Picnics are welcome at Legoland, Windsor although lockers are limited, (non refundable £1), so best to bag one early or follow the trend of acquiring a small bag on wheels to carry your lunch. This is an easy way to make some savings whilst also avoiding lengthy queues for lunch!

Ideal picnic spots include the Pirates Training Camp; an extensive playground that will keep the kids amused and give you a well earned break! Alternatively try the Enchanted Forest with grassed areas, mossy logs and lego woodland creatures!

Legoland Windsor

3. Beat the Queues at Legoland, Windsor

i. Not an easy task at Legoland but you can help yourself by visiting at quieter times.  Off peak times tend to be;

  • Teacher training days
  • March/April, (avoid Easter) & September/early October.
  • Fridays tend to be busier than any other weekday.
  • Avoid Ascot week as traffic is particularly busy!

ii. Another easy way to help avoid the queues is arriving before the park opens to the public.  Many people do not realise that Legoland opens at 9.30am on busy days and this can give you an added advantage to beat the queues.

iii. The turnstiles at Legoland open about 30 minutes before the park opens, allowing you into holding area.  If you can get there early, this will mean you can be ahead of the queues as the park opens to the public.

iv. Consider a Q-Bot; whilst this helps you avoid the queues at Legoland, it’s not a money saving tip by any means!  For more information, go to Q-Bots at Legoland, Windsor.

Thorpe Park & The Swarm; New Ride Area

August 3rd, 2011

Thorpe Park New Ride; The Swarm

Thorpe Park have just released further details of the new coaster for 2012; The Swarm.  To be located on an island north of Stealth, The Swarm will be accessed using a bridge to connect the areas.  From our recent visit to this popular theme park, it looks like work is already taking place to clear the area.

New Coaster for Thorpe Park

This new thrill ride at Thorpe Parked is being billed as the first winged rollercoaster that sends you head first into an inverted drop from 127ft.  Details now confirm that this coaster should be in place for 2012.  Set to cost £18 million to build, this new coaster will be the second tallest ride at Thorpe Park after Stealth.

New coaster plans for Thorpe Park

It’s controversial plans to re-create a crash scene have provoked an outcry in some quarters and we’ll be keeping a close eye on how things develop over the coming months.

If you are planning a visit to Thorpe Park, check out our Thorpe Park Deals 2011 for a budget day out.

Legoland Kennels & 2 for 1 Vouchers

July 12th, 2011

Legoland Kennels

Did you know that Legoland, Windsor offer free kennels to its customers whilst they visit this popular theme park?  This unusual freebie from Legoland allows you to take your pet on a family day out to the park!

Legoland Kennels

There are 7 kennels in total available to Legoland guests that work on a first come first served basis and are not available to book in advance unless there is a particular need of your pet.  The kennels are free of charge although a £5 refundable deposit is required to ensure the safe return of their padlock!

STOP PRESS….LOOKING FOR A LEGOLAND DEAL, CHECK OUT CHEAP TICKETS TO LEGOLAND WINDSOR

Having spoken with Guest Services at Legoland, they advise that anyone wishing to use the kennels should ring up before they leave on the day of their visit to ensure space is available.  Wise advice as dogs that are left in cars will be reported to the authorities.   These kennels are also available for other household pets but best to discuss prior to your visit before bringing down something unusual!

Legoland Kennels

So is this something we will be seeing more of at Merlin attractions in the future?  Doesn’t seem likely; I was told research indicated that  Legoland was the most likely attraction that the whole family would visit and so the need for the kennel was more marked.  Not sure I agree with this but I can’t see Merlin branching out into the kennel industry quite yet!

Thorpe Park Parking Charges

July 11th, 2011

Thorpe Park Parking Charges

Thorpe Park has now introduced parking charges for customers in line with many of the other Merlin attractions around the country.

Thorpe Park Parking Charges

Parking charges currently stand at £2 per car but with Alton Towers parking currently at £6 a vehicle, I suspect this will increase in the near future.

STOP PRESS….Looking for Cheap Tickets for Thorpe Park, go to Thorpe Park Deals 2011.

Whilst this is an effective money spinner for Merlin Entertainments, it perhaps leaves a bitter impression by the customer as this tends to be the last thing to do before leaving the theme park…not a great PR stunt!

How to Get Free Parking at Thorpe Park

Not too many options left…but Premium Merlin Passholders do still gain free parking at Thorpe Park.  One tip to pick up a Premium Pass on the cheap is to use Tesco Clubcard Vouchers to purchase a standard Merlin Pass and then upgrade to a Premium Pass by paying £30 cash.  Remember you only need one Premium Passholder per car!

If you have a standard Merlin Pass that was purchased prior to 3 January 2011, you will also gain free parking for the rest of the term of your standard pass.  However all Merlin Passes purchased after 3 January 2011 are under the new terms and conditions and will require you to pay the parking fee!

Thorpe Park & Single Rider Queues

July 8th, 2011

Thorpe Park & Single Riders

Thorpe Park have taken away all their single rider queues bar Stealth this season! This has always been an important string to your bow when looking to beat the queues at Thorpe Park in the past.

Single Rider Queue at Thorpe Park

The official response to why the single riders has disappeared is that it was taking up valuable time loading these additional customers onto the rides.  It was also noted that customers were ‘abusing’ the system as groups were opting to use the single rider queue rather than use the general queue point.  However, for me, this is the whole point of the single rider queue; it gives the customer the option to experience the ride without your friends but offering a shorter queue time!

I wonder if this has less to do with queue loading times and more to do with increasing the income generating methods of  the reducing your queue time; the fastrack ticket?  This is a worrying step for Theme Parks and concerns me that Alton Towers Single Rider Queues will be next.

New Rollercoaster Approved for Thorpe Park

April 9th, 2011

New Coaster for Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park will be receiving it’s seventh new rollercoaster after Runnymede Borough Council granted planning permission for the new ride to go ahead.

Rollercoasters galore

Thorpe Park plan to begin construction of the 127ft high rollercoaster in May 2011, which should be ready to ride in Spring 2012!  Costing approximately £20million, the new coaster will seat riders either side of the track with nothing above or below them for the ultimate thrill!

Set to be located close to Stealth on a newly developed island, it’s bound to be a popular choice for thrill seekers next year.

Looking for deals for Thorpe Park, check out our 2 for 1 deals for Thorpe Park 2011.

New Coaster for Alton Towers

Alton Towers are also drawing up plans for the creation of a new coaster for 2013.

Set to be the most expensive ride yet to be created at Alton Towers, it’s budget will exceed the £15million spent on building Thirteen that opened last season.

Few details have emerged yet as to the specifics of the coaster to be devised, but watch this space for further details!
