Top Tips for the London Eye

This is one attraction it is very difficult to find much of a discount!  Whilst the London Eye is becoming iconic with the London sightseeing package, it is clearly important to choose your day wisely for a clear day.  Worth checking out the weather forecast before you visit. It can also be best to undertake this attraction first thing in the morning to avoid the inevitable queues or alternatively invest in a fastrack ticket.

Why not combine a trip to the London Eye with a stroll along the South Bank and take in the free entertainment on offer.  Another option is to take the Thames Clipper for a budget trip along the Thames.  More details available at Top Dog London on a Budget.

London on a Budget

London is full of exciting places to visit but remember it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune as there’s plenty to do a budget.  Here’s a few ideas from our recent day trip to London.

London on a Boris Bike

Boris bikes!

This is a great way to get around London,  especially the London Parks, and it’s a great way to save money too!

The Barclays Cycle Hire scheme is open to tourists, visitors and residents alike in fact everyone over the age of 14. There are two charges made on these bikes, an access fee, (starting at £1 a day) and a usage fee, (dependant upon how long you have the bike in your possession).

Before you access the cycle hire scheme, you sign up either online or at the docking station on the day. Once you’ve paid your access fee, it’s down to you how much the bike ride is going to cost!  Remember, the first half hour of every journey is free of charge with the next 30 minutes charged at just £1.

As this is a scheme for short journeys by bike, the charges become progressively more expensive the longer you have the bike.  So it’s best to return your bike to a docking station as soon as you have completed your journey – you can always pick up another one later!  For further details, go to Barclays Cycle Hire in London.

Entertainment at Covent Garden

There is a never ending stream of entertainers at Covent Garden all year long so there is bound to be something for  everyone at this venue.  Acts tend to last around 20/30 minutes and often involves audience participation!  Whilst we like suggest things to do on a budget, do remember to tip the entertainers as this is how they make their living.

London Markets

The London markets offer an opportunity to explore a different side to the capital city experience and a chance to pick up a bargain to boot!  We opted for Camden Market, (now open every day), and checked out the world of alternative fashion.  There are plenty of other markets to choose from including Portobello Road, (antique & flea market) & Columbia Road, (Sunday Flower Market).

Best Tesco Clubcard deals

November 12th, 2010

Tesco clubcard vouchers are arriving in the post at the moment.  If you are looking for the best Tesco Clubcard deals, check our top hints and tips:

1. Beat the 6th Dec deadline for Tesco clubcard deals

Currently clubcard points can be redeemed for up to 4 times their value for partner benefits such as hotel & restaurant vouchers, days out tokens etc .  However from 6 December this will reduce to just 3 times their value and ‘pay in full rates’ will also increase at the same time.

To max out your benefits, you would be wise to redeem your vouchers before the 6 December deadline.  Many deals are valid for a full 6 months once you your points have been redeemed for vouchers so you don’t have to be in a hurry to spend your partner vouchers!

Hands on hints for your Tesco clubcard vouchers

2. Can I retrieve lost or forgotten tesco clubcard vouchers?

Yes, here’s a great tip from moneysaving expert that shows you how to retrieve old tesco clubcard vouchers you’d forgotten all about. This new service from Tesco allows you to  check out your current voucher balance and highlights any issued clubcard vouchers that have yet to be redeemed.  You can then redeem any remaining vouchers instantly using the online code given.

For all the details, terms & conditions go to retrieve old tesco clubcard vouchers. Well worth a look!

3. Annual Memberships from Tesco Clubcard deals can potentially offer the best value for money in days out.

1. Not only do annual memberships give you unlimited access to your favourite top attractions, they often come with plenty of additional benefits to maximize your savings.  Check out these options:

Merlin Annual Pass: this gains you entry to Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Warwick Castle and plenty more.  In addition you can secure Early Ride Time at Alton Tower, (great for queue busting), free parking plus 20% off food, drink & souvenirs at many of these settings!

English Heritage Membership; with over 400 historic settings to choose from throughout England, not only are you gaining new places to discover but helping to conserve our heritage to boot!

4. What about hotel vouchers & Tesco clubcard deals?

Redeeming your tesco vouchers for hotel rewards is another good way of making that mini-break affordable.  Currently every £10 will secure you £40 worth of hotel vouchers although this will be changing from 6 December too.  Check out our ideas for topdog luxury with tesco clubcard hotel vouchers.

5. Any new deals for Tesco clubcard vouchers?

Yes, Disnyeland Paris 2011 is on offer for just £29.50 per person in Tesco vouchers.  This is a pay in full deal and offers 1 child or 1 adult a ticket for Disneyland Paris, offering access to both Disneyland Parks during the one day.

6. Is it worth making use of clubcard double exchange offer?

The clubcard double exchange is currently back on and effectively offers you a chance to  double your money in store until 5 December 2010, (restrictions apply).

We personally think your vouchers are better spent on days out rewards, hotel stays and ferry crossings where you can redeem your tesco clubcard vouchers for up to four times their value before 6 December!
