Legoland; tips to beat the queues

August 29th, 2010

Lego figures at Legoland, Windsor

Legoland doesn’t always get a favourable reviews and in part this is down to the extensive queue times for the rides.  Follow our handy hints to beat the queues as Legoland, Windsor:

Get there early; an obvious point although many people do not realise that Legoland opens at 9.30am on busy days and this can give you an added advantage.  Check out what time the park opens on your day and aim to be there 40 minutes before that! That gives you time to park up, purchase your tickets, , and join the queue for the park to open. The turnstiles open about 30 minutes before the park opens, allowing you into The Beginning area so you can be at the front of the queue as the park opens.

Q Bots; at an additional cost a Q Bot will allow you to virtual queue for your rides rather than actually stand in the real queue!  For more information about Q Bots go to Q Bots; your questions answered.

Miss the Hill Train; it’s quicker to walk and misses the first queue of the day!

The largest queues at Legoland;the largest queues build for The Dragon, Pirate Falls, Vikings River Splash & Laser Raiders for older kids as well as the Driving School for younger children. To beat the queues, it’s worth heading straight for The Dragon & Pirate Falls at the far edge of the park and working backwards to complete the busiest rides first. The first 60/90 minutes of the day is the best time to get round the main attraction rides before the queues start to build.

Money no object; then check out a Q-Bot Express. At £40 per person , (peak price),this Q-Bot works in the same way as the basic Q-Bot except you don’t have to have completed one ride to book another but can reserve rides as you wish. This gives you unlimited access to all the rides listed in Q-Bot but at a price!

Good luck!

Tesco clubcard deals

August 11th, 2010

Tesco clubcard reward vouchers; how to make them go further?

Ensure you get 4 times your voucher’s value in reward options. If you spend it on food you only manage to  get two times their value!  Although Tesco are currently expanding this out to other departments for a limited period of time, this will still only get you two times their value!

Find cost effective deals in the brochure. Although reward vouchers can be redeemed for up four times their value, some deals only effectively offer you two or three times their value.  For example you can opt for a free Cineworld ticket for £3 in clubcard vouchers. However it doesn’t cost you £12 for a cinema ticket!  For value for money, it would be better spent on rewards such as a Merlin Annual Pass where your vouchers will  give you the full 4 times it’s value.

Combine tesco deals with other offers to max out your savings.  Use your tesco clubcard reward vouchers wisely to ensure best value. For example for a family of four off to Alton Towers, combine a 2 for 1 voucher with two tesco day entry rewards for a total of £20 in clubcard vouchers, (wise to split into twos at the kiosk to avoid the one offer per transaction!)  This way you can bank additional Tesco clubcard reward vouchers for your next day out too!

Additional clubcard points promotions.  Clearly this is what Tesco want you to do, but it is worth keeping an eye out for additional points promotions to build your rewards as long as you are buying necessary household items!

Check out these Tesco Clubcard deals that potentially offer value for money:

  • English Heritage Membership; each £10 in Tesco clubcard vouchers will give you £40 off annual membership.  Membership will give you free entry to over 400 historic settings in England.

  • Legoland Discovery Centre; buy entrance in full for £3.50 in vouchers per person, (adult on the gate price, £13.95)
  • Conkers, Derbyshire; each £5 in Tesco clubcard voucher will allow you £20 off your entrance fees.
  • Crealy Adventure Parks; this new addition will secure a £20 discount for just £5 in clubcard vouchers.

Tesco clubcard vouchers can offers value for money and, if used wisely, will save you a fortune on days out!

Q-Bots at Legoland, Windsor

July 18th, 2010

Miniland at Legoland, Windsor

Legoland, Windsor offers Q-Bots to customers to reduce queue times but at a price! Here are some of the most commonly asked questions asked about Q-Bots at Legoland:

What is a Q-Bot?

A Q-Bot is a handheld device on a keychain that allows you to virtual queue for your rides rather than actually stand in the real queue!

How does a Q-Bot work?

A Q-Bot allows you to virtual queue only rather than a fastrack ticket that allows you to by pass the queue completely.  So with a Q-Bot,  you can only electronically reserve one ride at a time.

All the times are updated on your Q-Bot, you choose a ride and reserve your ride time for your selected ride. At that selected time,  you make your way through the Q-Bot entrance and very quickly access the ride. Once finished, you begin choosing your next ride.

What are the pros & cons of a Q-Bot?

A Q-Bot is like a fastrack ticket, you have all the thrill of the rides without the queues. The downside is they are costly at £10 per person off peak & £15 per person peak times, (for under 3’s, you add them to the Q-Bot but there is no charge), and each person who intends to experience the rides needs to be on the Q-Bot.

Apart from the cost, the main complaints regarding the Q-Bots concern the queue to puchase the Q-Bots & managing your time effectively with a Q-Bot. A top tip to maximize the number of rides you can fit into a day, it’s best to use your Q-Bot for rides with long wait times and actually physcially stand inline for those rides with shorter waiting times.

Any deals on Q-Bots?

The only current deal on Q-Bots is that pass holders are eligible for a 50% discount after 2pm. However whether there are any Q-Bots available from 2pm is another matter!
