Magna Science Adventure Centre

Review of Magna Science Adventure Centre

Have you ever thought of Magna Science Centre for a day out with the kids?  Located in Rotherham, Yorkshire this hands on visitor attraction is ideal for family visits whatever the weather.  There are some great deals available for Magna too; go to Cheap Tickets & Deals for Magna for further information.

Magna Science Adventure Centre

Using the core elements of the steel process, (fire, water, earth & air) to underpin the principals of this interactive science centre, there is plenty to keep children amused for a full day.

Whilst Magna is not a steel heritage museum, there are opportunities to undertake a free tour around the museum in the company of a previous steel worker to learn more about the mill & working conditions.  Simply ask at the reception desk as you arrive for more information on these tours.

Extreme Activities at Magna

Magna contrives to make full use of this former steel mill building whilst managing to offer some great thrill seeking opportunities for adrenaline fuelled customers!

Activities include zip wire, abseiling, bungee jumping or free fall using a powerfan.  With the zip wire available to children of Key Stage 2 age, (my thrill seeking seven year old son enjoyed this one), it’s not just the adults that enjoy these experiences!  Worth checking out when these activities are running before you set out as these additional priced activities do not run every day.

Interactive Exhibits at Magna

Set out into four distinct areas, you manoeuvre around the core building during your visit.  It’s well worth packing a coat, (hat, gloves, scarf in colder weather) as whilst the interactive areas are heated the main building is understandably not due to its size.  Whilst customers can initially be daunted by the darkened core to the building, it does help to recreate the feel of it’s origins as a former steel mill whilst adding to the thrill & theming of the adventure activities.

Aqua Play at Magna

When you’ve tried out the water play, made music, used the diggers, checked out the five-metre fire tornado plus hundreds more interactive exhibits, it’s time to explore outside!  Choose from the extensive outdoor adventure playground that works for children of all ages or the AquaTek, the outdoor splash zone designed to give you a soaking!  You can pay a discounted rate just for the outdoor areas should you wish but this ticket cannot be upgraded to a full annual pass.  More details available at Magna Deals & Discounts.

If you are looking to keep the costs down, then you’ll be glad to know that picnics are welcome at this attractions with plenty of seating inside & out to enjoy a day out on a budget.  There are a number of £1 refundable lockers available too located at reception.  It may also be worth checking out what deals are running at the on-site cafe, (currently kids eat free with any hot adult main meal).

Parking is free at Magna and with Meadowhall Shopping Centre just 2 miles away, you might even have time to squeeze in a quick shopping trip!

Love to hear your thoughts & tips if you’ve been to Magna.

Another World Record Attempt; Magna!

May 19th, 2011

World Record Attempts at Visitor Attractions

Is it just me or does there seem to be an abundance to World Record Attempts underway at top visitor attractions this year?

So far, (and the most bizarre to date), was from Drayton Manor attempting to secure the most morphsuits in one place!

Then we’ve had the attempt to create the largest foosball game at Gulliver’s Kingdom. Even the National Trust are trying for a skinny dipping World Record Attempt requiring participants to immerse themselves for a full 10 minutes in our anything-but-warm-waters at the unearthly time of 7 in the morning!

Now I’ve come across a World Record attempt that has less  in common with Challenge Anneka/I’m a Celebrity; a Gunge Fight World Record Attempt that’s taking place at Magna!  Oh yes, that’s much more my style although I might skip the complimentary hose down thank you!

If this is for you, it’s taking place on 18 June at Magna, Science Adventure Centre with more details available at Magna’s Gunge Fight World Record Attempt.
