Eureka National Children’s Museum Review

August 25th, 2011

Eureka Children’s Museum

Eureka Children’s Museum is well worth a visit in our minds.  Based in Halifax, Yorkshire this interactive visitor attraction is great for little ones to explore & discover the world around them in a fun & relaxed environment.

Change a tyre at Eureka!

Eureka on a Budget

There are plenty of deals available on entrance fees at Eureka including free annual upgrade options that can save you money all year long.  More details on all the deals & discounted tickets are available at Eureka Deals & Upgrades.

Food is another obvious way to reduce your outlay on a day out & it was good to see that picnics are welcome at Eureka.  With plenty of picnic spots available, inside & out, my favourite had to be the picnic area within an old train carriage!

There is a well sized cafe on site should you wish to eat in and I was impressed by the healthy food options available for both children & adults to enjoy.  Whilst I have read reviews with mutterings around the price of food, I have to say it all appeared reasonably priced to me and with the option of bringing your own food, the choice is yours.

Parking at Eureka

Whilst there is ample parking next to this attraction, you will incur a parking charge, (pay & display with 4, 12 or 24 hour parking options). If you opt to travel by public transport, (Halifax train station is literally next door), you can avoid the parking fees and pick up a deal on annual passes.  Eureka currently works with Metro, Arriva, First Bus & TransPennine to offer 10% off annual passes when you travel by public transport.  More details available at Annual Pass Discounts at Eureka.

Another top tip to avoid parking charges is to visit on a Sunday. Whilst the Eureka car park still incurs a parking charge, there are ample other car parks around that do not!

Free Outdoor Play at Eureka!

Free Outdoor Play Area at Eureka

There’s plenty of fun to be had outside at Eureka and the great thing it is free of charge.  With giant connect four games, a sandpit, a barefoot sensory walk and plenty of interactive toys & equipment, it’s great for an hour or two and you don’t have to pay entrance charges either.

What is there is to do at Eureka

My favourite area has to be the mini town complete with an M&S, bank, garage, post office and house!  You can draw money out the bank, purchase food at the shop, fill up at the garage or prepare a meal in the home plus much more.  Young children are in role-play heaven and could spend hours in this area alone!

Shop at M&S at Eureka!

A firm favourite with the children is Scoot, a talking robot, that can have a real conversation with you…it’s got to be magic! Within this Me & My Body Area, there are plenty on innovative ways for children to explore and understand the body including riding a skeleton bike & stepping inside a giant mouth.

Under 5′s have their own specially designed areas full of sensory & imaginative activities.  Children particularly love the bucket lift is the Desert Discovery Area that requires the help of the children to collect & reload items; prepare to camp out for some time!

Something a bit different at Eureka

Eureka offers itself out as a baby naming venue if you are looking for something a little different.  Works a treat if you have a number of little guests in the audience too.
